Specialties of Samburu

Specialties of Samburu

Specialties of Samburu. Off the beaten road is where some of the best African safari surprises can be found. For the big fields and savannahs, most Kenya safari tours go to the south of the country. But you might want to go north instead. When you get there, you’ll be rewarded with Samburu National Park’s beautiful views and diverse wildlife. This out-of-the-way reserve doesn’t get as many tourists as its southern cousins, which means you’ll have more time to enjoy the park and animals with fewer other people there.

All of the big cats roam this large area, which includes acacia forests, riverine forests, and wide, open areas. The cheetah, leopard, and lion are what you’ll be looking for. That’s not all the wildlife you can see in this 165 sq km (63 sq mi) park, though.

The Ewaso Ng’iro

That’s the name of the river that runs through the park and adds a bright strip of green to the mostly brown and orange landscape. The river feeds the forest next to it, which in turn feeds the animals that come to this haven.

There are more than 900 elephants in this park, as well as warthogs, gazelles, impalas, baboons, and the tiny dik-dik, which gets its name from the sound it makes.

There are also a lot of birds here; over 450 kinds can be seen in the sky and on the trees. The area is home to eagles, starlings, hornbills, bee-eaters, vultures, and storks.

There are five special Samburu
The animals at Samburu are also very rare and can’t be found at any other African safari game park. They are unique, vulnerable, and hard to find. They are called the “Samburu Special Five.” Your Safari Trips to Kenya guide will be able to find some or all of these unique animals.

These are them:

The Grevy’s zebra
The Somali ostrich
Giraffe with ridges
Gerenuk Beisa oryx
Along with these species, the park is home to the pancake tortoise, the great egret, and the martial owl.

Another unique thing about Samburu that you don’t see in many other parks is big groups of African wild dogs that are trained to hunt.

What the Samburu People Do

You may have heard of the Maasai. They are a pastoral group that has lived in this part of East Africa for a very long time and are known for herding animals.

A group that is very similar to the Maasai is the Samburu People. They live in small towns here, and you can go to the park and talk to them. Watch their colorful dances and events, see their bomas, and learn about how they live as native people.

The Area Around Samburu

The fact that the Shaba and Buffalo Springs Reserves are close by is another great thing about an African adventure tour to Samburu. These are close by and have a lot of different scenery to see.

It is greener in Shaba than in Samburu, and it has woods, woodlands, and interesting volcanic features, such as the Shaba Hill Volcano.

In close proximity, Buffalo Springs is a peaceful haven that also surprises tourists with its volcanic features, such as the Champagne Ride, a long lava terrace. Elephants, deer, and kudu are just some of the animals that come to these springs.
