Safari Up Country

Safari Up Country

Safari Up Country, Not all of Kenya’s parks are spread out on the plains, where wildebeests and lions roam freely. Some, like Aberdare National Park, are cool, up-country forests with mountain lakes, streams, and waterfalls. You might see elephants and giant animals coming out of the trees in these parks. The weather is cool, maybe even brisk up here in the hills and moors. Like all of Kenya’s parks, this one is a great place to see wildlife. If you go on a long walk, you can get close to buffalo, baboons, bush pigs, and even black rhino.

You can fish here and walk on the windswept moors, which look like they belong in the British Isles or North America. but also places where you might see a black cat, a jackal, an eland, or a giant antelope.

At the park’s lower elevations, you’ll first find the park’s thick bamboo woods, where more than 2,000 elephants live in warmer weather. One of the largest groups of black rhinos in Kenya lives in these groves in the dense jungle. The beautiful and interesting animals are usually very shy, but because there are so many of them here, you’ll have a better chance of seeing one.

To the north, you’ll find a different ecosystem with misty moors, mountain bogs, streams, and wild highland landscapes. This is all happening in Africa!

Towering Places to Stay

Since the park is so unique, you can expect your housing to be also. There are two unique places to stay in Aberdare:

Treetop cabin: You can stay in this cabin that looks like a treehouse and is high above the park. From your balcony, you can see elephants, buffalo, and other animals coming out of the woods to drink at the drinking holes below.

As a historical reference to the park’s many animals, you can also stay at the Ark Lodge, which is shaped like a boat and is high enough to see the animals moving around below you.

Aberdare’s Unique Activities

Most of the time, when we think of safari, we don’t think of climbing, hiking, or fishing in a mountain stream. You can leave your 4×4 at this one-of-a-kind mountain park and walk around to explore the cool, green areas. There are trails, bamboo groves, thick forests, and waterfalls to see.

The park is also a great place to watch birds. Over 290 species live in its woods and wetlands, such as the augur buzzard, the African goshawk, crown eagles, and hawks.

Try Twin Hills, Table Mountain, or Elephant Hills if you like to rock climb or hike. You only need to want to find the most beautiful views and not worry about how to do it.

The park is usually cool and wet, which is different from most of the other places on your trip, so make sure you wear the right clothes. During the wet months of March through May and October through December, the roads may get muddy, making it hard to get around the park.

The park is open all year, but the best times to see wildlife and get to it are in January and February and June through September, when it is dryer.

If you go on an African safari, Aberdare Park is a must-see. You can hike, climb, fish, or just relax and enjoy the wildlife and beauty in the highlands.
