You could also feed a huge giraffe and then go to the farm of the famous author of “Out of Africa,” Karen Blixen.

Safari Trips to Kenya will show you a great day for taking pictures! So remember to bring an extra roll of film for your phone.

Museum of Karen Blixen

At 8 a.m., we’ll stop by your hotel or any other place you choose to start the trip. After that, we’ll go to the base of the Ngong Hills to see Karen Blixen’s farm. She was a famous author and romantic character. Under the name Isak Dinesen, Blixen wrote about her life as a planter, an adventurer, and the lover of hunter Denys Finch Hatton in the international bestseller “Out of Africa.” Meryl Streep and Robert Redford later played the lead roles in the movie version of the book.

The classic manor house that Blixen lived in on the farm grounds is now the Karen Blixen Museum, a tribute to her life and to a special time and place in Africa. You can really feel the colors and mood of the colonial era in these rooms, where Blixen wrote her autobiography and Finch Hatton came back from his dangerous travels. Now you have a chance to enter a world of romance and adventure from the past.

David Sheldrick Elephant Rescue Center

Have you ever heard of an elephant home for kids? Picture what kinds of things come to mind? If you picture a line of adorably cute baby elephants running for their big baby bottles, you will not be let down. Each of these babies who was left alone has a caretaker who looks after them and makes sure they grow and do well until they can be put back in their natural environment.

The Sheldrick Orphanage has been saving these tiny babies from being poached for more than 40 years, coming up with best practices to protect their physical and mental health.

We’ll stay past feeding time to watch the kids jump into their baths, which are big, dirty pools where the noisy babies play and splash around. The people who take care of them throw dirt over them for fun and to protect them from the sun. You’ll be smiling all day from all the cute things here!

The Garden for lunch

Enjoy this perfect piece of Africa with its old trees, gardens, and flowering plants. The Karen Blixen Coffee Garden is a lovely time capsule where we’ll stop for lunch. Enjoy food from the whole menu while taking in the view, just like Blixen did one hundred years ago.

Giraffe Park

There are many unique animal experiences in Nairobi. For example, at the Giraffe Center, you can meet about a dozen endangered Rothschild’s Giraffes. You can feed the friendly long-necked creatures by climbing up on this platform. There’s a chance you’ll get a giraffe kiss too.

This endangered sub-species of giraffe has found safety and comfort at the Center. The animals have been saved, bred, and cared for here for decades, giving us all the chance to get to know their unique personalities. There will probably be dozens of happy kids and their teachers around you as you all crane your necks to look at the tall, curious animals. They are a big hit with Kenyan students.

Kazuri Beads

Kazuri Beads began when two single mothers with artistic vision and a strong sense of self-determination set up a small workshop where they made pots and beads to make money. Over time, their experiment drew in other determined young women who wanted to make their lives better by being independent and artistic.

As you walk along the rows of brightly colored beads and watch the artists at work, you’ll quickly understand why this is such a great place to work. You can buy gifts for yourself, your friends, and family at the gift shop to support this growing business run by hundreds of women. The hand-made items make thoughtful gifts that you’ll want to share.

What a perfect way to end our “Into Africa” Tour—a day full of fun animal encounters, great history, and artistic pride. It’s now time to get back in your safari car and drive back to your hotel or something else you choose.
