Nairobi Tours
Nairobi is very close, and there are herds of wildebeest, lions, and baby elephants.
Kenya doesn’t just have big, famous parks with lots of wildlife. You can see a lot of wildlife not far from town. Nairobi National Park is a real wildlife refuge that’s only a short walk from your hotel. There you can see lions, buffalo, cheetahs, and other animals walking freely, and in the distance you can see the buildings in the city’s downtown area.
After putting your day bag away, you’ll be with hippos, rhinos, and zebras in an hour. But only in Nairobi. Safari Trips to Kenya gives both full-day and half-day trips to the city’s magical animal enclaves, which are unique spots that you can’t find anywhere else. Seeing them is one of the best things to do in Nairobi; you’ll never forget it!
Want to see a lot of elephant babies?
We’ll take you to the David Sheldrick Trust Elephant Orphanage to see dozens of cute baby elephants eating, playing, and just being cute. Imagine the babies, who were hungry, running up to their managers to get their breakfast in the morning. They would drink from big baby bottles. They eat their breakfast quickly and then run off to play, like any child would. They play soccer and roll around in mud puddles.
Young rhinos also find safety at the orphanage. All of these babies were saved and are now being carefully raised and cared for until they are ready to go back to the wild. You can even “adopt” a child while you’re there.
Had you ever fed a giraffe?
Take the steps up to the platform where you can see a Rothschild’s giraffe up close and personal. If you hold out some food pellets, a long, green tongue will quickly eat them up. If they like you, they might even kiss you.
The Giraffe Center is a safe place for this endangered subspecies of giraffe that is on most of our day trips. This is a beautiful place with nature trails and lots of tall giraffes. There are also lots of Kenyan students laughing and having a good time while they are there.
A Journey Into Africa: The Karen Blixen Museum
As Isak Dinesen, the famous author of “Out of Africa,” you may know her. She had a farm in Africa and her real name was Karen Blixen. We’ll take you there.
Blixen wrote about her struggles, loves, and life as a woman in Africa during the colonial era. This is the coffee farm and manor house where she lived. The place where she lived is now a museum where you can see things that were important to her life.
Kazuri Beads
Kazuri Beads is one of our favorite places to visit on our day tours in Nairobi. Maybe it’s because this craft refuge and gift shop was started by women in the area who wanted to find power in their own creative work and personal projects.
When you walk into this busy workplace, you’ll see people making bright beads and pottery, which is known all over the world for its positive message of freedom of choice and expression. Finish your tour of Nairobi by going to the gift shop. There you can make a difference and leave with some important mementos.
